The Space Systems Group, part of SPA's Space and Intelligence Division, provides timely and objective assessments and recommendations integrating technical, operational, programmatic, policy and business analysis. We focus on our key clients in the Space community including the US Space Force's Space Systems Command (USSF/SSC), one of the three designated Field Commands under USSF. We work tirelessly to provide integrated solutions based on information and communications throughout the chain of command. SPA has a near-term need for a Network Engineer.

Responsibilities

As a Network Engineer at SPA, you will be assigned to support the Space Systems Command Program Office developing software solutions to perform cyber operations in defense of the US Space Force's mission systems. Using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to implement a DevSecOps approach, you will enable the rapid development and shipment of software solutions to protect, defend, and respond to both ground- and space-based cyber adversarial threats. You will be expected to understand and apply the best practices and standards for secure software development and deployment as set forth by Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and Open Worldwide Application Security Pkroject (OWASP) Top 10 policies and procedures. You will be expected to design, develop, test, integrate, and deploy software in accordance with the concepts and techniques defined by the 12 Factor App development practices (12factor.net), cloud native (cncf.io), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF).

As Network Engineer your responsibilities will include:

    Performing and documenting mission mapping and mission system network visualization.
  • Performing Packet Capture (PCAP) retrieval and analysis.
  • Conducting network and system tap planning for integration of software and hardware with mission systems.
  • Supporting Wide Area Network (WAN) connections and network transport design and implementation.
  • Documenting hardware configuration and cabling of equipment in racks for deployment to identified mission systems.
  • Maintaining documentation of rack elevations to expedite placement of new equipment.
  • Installing, configuring, and supporting network equipment to include routers, proxy servicers, Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliances, WAN accelerators, Domain Name Servers (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers, and related technologies.
  • Configuring firewalls, routers, switches, and servers to maximize network efficiency and security.
  • Managing network configuration of new and existing switching and routing appliances.
  • Configuring and maintaining VPN appliances to enable local and remote access.
  • Deploying network capabilities including workstations, desktops, printers, peripherals, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones, and related technologies to end-user workspaces.
  • Commissioning and decommissioning standard cable and fiber interconnections, data center racks, fiber framework, server, storage, and networking equipment.
  • Performing capacity planning, performance monitoring, network operations, and analysis to enable low latency and consistent transmission of data from mission systems to correlation locations.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Salary pay range: 150k - 190k

Qualifications

About the Must Haves

  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience performing network engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant STEM from an accredited institution
  • Certified IAT Level II
  • At least one or more of the following certifications:
    • CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, JNCDA, JNCDS, or equivalent
  • You are a US Citizen and possess a current Secret Clearance
  • Your resume must demonstrate experience:
    • Examples of designing and implementing complex networks
    • Proficiency configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols
    • Implementing network security measures
    • Implementing quality of service policies to prioritize network traffic and ensure optimal performance of the system
    • Proficiency using network monitoring tools
    • Implementing network automation solutions for configuration, provisioning, and management via Ansible and/or Python
    • Applying load balancing principles and configuring/managing load balancers
    • Designing and implementing network redundancy and disaster recovery solutions.
