JOB DESCRIPTION

Delta Dental is seeking three highly motivated and analytically minded Actuarial Interns to join our team for the summer. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in the dental insurance industry. Interns will support our actuarial department in the development of risk assessments, pricing strategies, and financial forecasting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing actuarial models to evaluate risk, pricing, and financial outcomes for various dental insurance products.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that may impact pricing and financial forecasting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Underwriting, Finance, and Product Development to optimize product offerings and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Review and analyze regulatory filings and industry benchmarks to maintain compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of actuarial processes and methodologies by identifying areas of opportunity and recommending solutions.
  • Use SQL to pull data for client-specific, provider network, and book of business analytics/reporting.
  • Automate, build, and maintain self-service tools and dashboards for internal and external clients.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field, with a strong academic record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with query languages and statistical software such as SQL, R, SAS, or Python is a plus!
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong background in mathematics and statistics, with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with an hour lunch.
  • This is a hybrid position that would require the intern to work out of the Oakland, CA office Monday - Friday for the first few weeks of the internship with the option to work remotely 1-2 days a week, thereafter.

Base Pay Information:

The national base pay range for this role is a good faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications, and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. The estimated pay range is $41,000 - $83,200.
