Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
  • Creates and produces metrics and reports used to manage the infrastructure for Patient Throughput Quality Improvement. Monitors workflow for opportunites.
  • Manages the design and production of Patient Command Center outcome and process metrics. These metrics include, but are not limited to Capacity Management, Patient Throughput Dashboard, Executive Dashboards, Dashboards, Site Based Scorecards, Nursing SCOUT and ad hoc reports as requested. Reporting including all IL hospitals and system initiatives.
  • Uses statistical techniques to identify drivers of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in identified Key Result Areas (KRA). Provides clinical consultation on measurement and indicator development, development of operational definitions, data collection plans, sampling strategies and data verification methodologies.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to validate data accuracy in order to identify problems with data integrity to include validation of publically reported data. Provides staff support for regulatory data preparation (i.e., DNV, IDPH, CMS, Leapfrog, QIO etc.) and supporting documents using established guidelines. Builds workflow process and outcomes data repositories as requested.
  • Monitors and reports outcomes related to patient throughput and nursing workforce development indicators at the unit, site and enterprise level and at regular intervals to various work groups and identifies opportunities for improvement. Develop, implements, and maintains department Patient Command Center and Workforce Development SharePoint site of key performance indicators.
  • Utilizes statistical process control charts to evaluate and display data. Demonstrates ability to independently create advanced level graphs, charts, and other tools for displaying data. Continuously demonstrates efforts to improve data management and display. Performs analysis of key metrics using advanced analytical and statistical formulas and techniques.
  • Assures accuracy of narrative and data reports generated from data sources to include analysis of variations in the data. Generates and disseminates reports in a timely manner to individuals, committees, and departments as requested. Reports contain a summary that is understandable and includes accompanying detail.
  • Provides analytical and technical services to the Patient Command Center Leadership, System Nursing Workforce Development and Quality Committees. Assists with the formatting and distribution of aggregate and case review reports as requested. Recommends appropriate database/information system for data mining.
  • Leads QA committee for throughput and PCC workflow development. Actively participates in committee and team meetings as assigned to provide insight to data collected and subsequent analysis. Assists in formatting data for reports used by Patient Command Center, Operational Leadership and physician leaders for trending of performance and outcomes.
  • Educates and consults with Patient Command Leadership and System Nursing Workforce Development Leadership regarding capabilities of software capabilities. Develops clinical decision support educational materials and presentations. Serves as a clinical consultant to process design/redesign teams regarding data availability, analytical and report issues.


Licensure:
  • Nurse, Registered (RN)


Education/Experience Required:
  • BSN Typically requires 5 years of clinical experience and, statistical and financial analysis.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Expert knowledge of clinical decision support systems and clinical patient throughout software and electronic medical record. Demonstrated expertise and experience with statistical and analytic methods, and statistical analytic software. Significant experience with group process and facilitation. Self-directed and results oriented. Knowledge of CQI processes. Good organizational and project management skills. Ability to effectively problem solve. Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement. Ability to build collaborative working relationships. Demonstrated knowledge of office applications and statistical analytic software. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including MACROS and Access. Excellent presentation and writing skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Exposed to a normal office environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able operate all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 20 lbs. Must have functional speech, vision, and hearing. Must be able to concentrate on minute detail with frequent interruptions.
