Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Under the supervision of a Registered Licensed Clinical Dietitian assists with the nutrition intervention of patients on assigned patient care units. Responsible for performing nutritional screening, implementing & monitoring compliance to care plans, educating patients & their families, and communicating with interdisciplinary team members. Screening includes obtaining and verifying relevant data and information in a timely manner for support of nutrition assessment under the supervision of an RD. Serves as a department services Customer Service Advocate. Work is performed at a high degree of independence.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Knowledge of Nutrition principles normally acquired through graduation of a Dietetic Technician associate degree program or acceptable college level training in Nutrition, and licensure by the State of Maine is required. American Dietetic Association accredited programs are preferred. Acquires 10 credits per year of continuing education to maintain technical skills and licensure credits.

    • Experience: N/A
    • Work requires one to six months of orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies and procedures.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of patients, staff and co-workers.
    • Must possess a basic understanding of the metric system.
    • Work requires walking for approximately 80% of work time as well as the ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail.
    • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate food intakes, examine quality and accuracy of food served to patients according to diet prescriptions, and collect and compare data to estimated needs identified by the Registered Dietitian.
