General Summary
Under general supervision, provides services on assigned projects for the design, development, construction, alteration or installation of hospital facilities, buildings and equipment. Develops space programs, feasibility studies, and initial project cost and schedule estimates for review by the Facilities department senior staff.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Coordinates the programming, planning, and design of annual construction and renovation projects for the Medical System in accordance with departmental procedures.
2. Develops feasibility studies in order to determine viability of proposed projects..
3. Develops conceptual option analysis leading to a preferred design for consultant development of departmental renovations. Reviews consultant design concepts for renovations and new construction projects.
4. Assists in the selection of architectural, engineering, and interior design consultants for building construction projects in accordance with departmental procedures.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree and three years related, demonstrated architectural design, interior design, space planning or facilities management experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience may be substituted for the degree. Healthcare environment experience is preferred.
2. Registration as a professional architect or NCIDQ interior designer is preferred.
3. Knowledge of space programming, design, construction, and facilities planning is required.
4. Knowledge of Computer Automated Design and Drafting programs (AutoCAD) is required. Knowledge of Microsoft office products, project scheduling and project estimating software is preferred.
5. Knowledge of hospital design and building codes and regulations is preferred.
6. A high level of judgment, discretion, and sensitivity to political issues is required. Ability to demonstrate professional credibility is required. Ability to develop conceptual designs and to effectively negotiate is required.
7. Highly effective written and verbal communication and leadership skills are required to effectively work and interact with project engineers, consulting firms, administration and support staff and to draft technical specifications.
Working Conditions
1. Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.
2. Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.
