Art Gallery High School Intern, Part-Time

Giertz Gallery at Parkland College is offering internships for Summer/Early Fall 2024.
Interns will work approximately 15 hours per week for up to 14 weeks, at a pay rate of $14.00/hour.

Application review will begin immediately until all positions are filled.

The Giertz Gallery at Parkland College Summer Youth Employment Internship is designed to give participants a range of experience in the operation of a contemporary art gallery within an educational institution. The purpose of the internship is to provide high school students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience working in a nonprofit arts organization and educational environment. Through this program, students will develop a deeper comprehension of the work involved in nonprofit arts administration, gain a better understanding of the role of the arts in communities, and develop "real life" business skills that can be put to use in their future careers. Students will also gain exposure to possibilities for a career working in the arts. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

The Art Gallery High School Internship is a part-time hourly, grant-funded, summer internship on a schedule established by the Art Gallery Director. Duties include serving as Gallery Attendant, providing an invaluable service to the college and the public, to create a welcoming and informative environment for all visitors while overseeing the safety of exhibited artwork. Internal and external events may require an altered work schedule.

Summer Gallery hours are Monday-Wednesday, 10 AM-5 PM and Thursday, 10 AM-7 PM.
