Job Description

Dr. Ahmed Ghazi's Simulation Innovation Lab (SIL), a research laboratory in the Department of Urology, is seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to ongoing projects and experiments pertaining to model development. The Research Assistant will aim to further SIL's contributions to developing novel simulation models for surgical training, education, and rehearsal. The Research Assistant will oversee day-to-day data collection for research studies in support of the PI and contribute towards the development of novel simulation models.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fabricates high-fidelity hydrogel organs for surgical simulation via hydrogel injection molding.
  • Independently operates and maintain 3D printers (FDM) for printing various molds and parts for simulation models which include robotic assisted nerve-spare prostatectomy, holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, inflatable penile prosthesis, and other urological disorders.
  • Analyze routine data.
  • Run routine and ad hoc reports from research databases.
  • Utilize data cleaning methods to ensure accuracy of data and preparation of tables.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Hands-on skills with fabrication, crafting, painting, etc.
  • 3D printing and modeling.
  • Independent worker, attention to detail.






Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in biomedical engineering, biology, STEM, or closely related field strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working in 3D design and 3D printing.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
  • Illustrate the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
  • High-level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong drive to create work at a high quality.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY ($48,880 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 A.M - 5:00 P.M
