Overview

The Assistant Project Manager must be capable of assisting with directing and managing a team of engineers & technicians on Land Development projects. This position requires the ability to proficiently perform the work, as well as the aptitude to manage project scope, schedules and budgets, and interface with teams of engineers, as well as clients and regulators.

Typical salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $125,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Specific tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Assists in management of Land Development projects, including but not limited to the design of grading, drainage, roads, utilities, and erosion control.
  • Works in tandem with multiple project stakeholders and clients to integrate schedules, design deliverables, and scopes of work.
  • Assists in the development of fee proposals for civil design work.
  • Must be willing to work in a design team environment, including directing the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegating work as required.
  • Performs engineering tasks associated with the development of residential, commercial, multi-family, industrial, and municipal projects.
  • Assists in monitoring and directing the day-to-day work of project technical staff & sub-contractors.
  • Ensures internal communication and coordination of design efforts occurs.
  • Support QA/QC reviews of project deliverables.
  • Must become familiar and comply with Merrick's project management systems, procedures and reporting protocols, and report regularly to Merrick project managers on project performance.
  • Assists in monitoring scope, schedule, budget, deliverables and client expectations throughout initiation, execution, and closeout phases of projects.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage and report on multiple tasks and projects at various stages of completion and complexity.
  • Communicates and coordinates with all project and client stakeholders as required for successful project execution.
  • Assists with external communications and invoices.
  • Applies analytical skills to project approaches, standards, and solutions, throughout project lifecycle.
  • Develops and maintains positive client relationships.
  • Assists in business development (BD) activities including presentations to potential clients, preparation of proposals and estimating work, attending conferences, and supporting proposal development efforts.
  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and business ethics.
  • Must have experience leading small to midsize projects as a lead engineer.
  • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) years of combined experience in civil site design and project management.
  • Professional Engineering License is preferred.
  • Experience in Land Development design and engineering.
  • Must exhibit aptitude for leading small to medium size projects with a focus on profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
