Job Description

The Gender Equity Unit (https://genderhealthdata.org/), located in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is seeking an Associate Director of the Gender Equity Unitto play a leadership role in the unit and backstop the Director.Will provide day-to-day problem solving, technical input, report writing to funders as well as guidance and leadership in the design, development, and conduct of research and programs focused on gender equity in health data. They will manage day-to-day activities of the team and monitor workplan progress. Furthermore, they will manage operations and strategic thinking, acting as a liaison to funders and collaborators and contribute to greater vision planning. The Associate Director will also travel internationally (primarily to low- and middle-income settings) as needed to provide technical assistance and attend partner meetings.


This position requires great leadership skills to help guide and grow a passionate team made up of researchers and program specialists of various levels. The selected applicant will have excellent interpersonal communication skills to be able to interface professionally with team members, university contacts, donors, and high-level leadership at global partner organizations and within country governments.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintaining open, ongoing communication with partners and country-level players.
  • Ensuring all materials produced by the unit are of highest quality in content and presentation and are responsive to the funder expectations.
  • Promptly responding to partner and staff requests for information or assistance.
  • Providing technical input on materials, strategies, work plans, and budgets as needed and seeking additional technical input when necessary.
  • Leading the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual donor reports.
  • Contributing to budget development and projections.
  • Managing day-to-day team activities.
  • Leading all hiring and contributing to biannual staff reviews.
  • Coordinating agendas and logistics for staff and partner meetings.
  • Representing the Unit at partner and donor meetings regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Developing professional networks as appropriate to the position, including colleagues from other public, private, and non-profit organizations, and sharing contact points with the Director for proposal development.
  • Contributing to strategic thinking for the Unit and big picture visioning and planning.
  • Proactively exploring and identifying proposal development and business expansion opportunities.
  • Participating in and leading proposal development as necessary.
  • Creating custom presentations.


Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Research experience.
  • Strong project management skills.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Six years related program management experience in public health or medicine.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree.
  • Technical expertise in gender and health.

Starting Salary Range: $86,500 - $151,400 Annually ($120,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
