POSITION SUMMARY:

The Depot Service Manager is responsible managing in house maintenance of instruments shipped back to MSD for depot level service. This position will follow, improve, and establish standard operating procedures for depot repair. The incumbent will troubleshoot, repair and perform routine maintenance at the service depot. Occasional travel may be necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Ensure that the depot service process is managed properly on a day to day basis
o Establish daily priorities for team members
o Update and report detail shortages that may impact shipments to customers
o Set up and maintain service schedules
* Refurbish MSD instruments
o Repair used equipment, items sold, leased, or rented with service contract, warranty or out-of-warranty
* Identify gaps in processes/procedures, and make necessary changes where appropriate
* Hands on troubleshooting and repair
* Establish and write new SOPs as necessary
o Technical Bulletins
* Technical training on new instrumentation as well as changes to existing instrumentation
o Provide training and guidance to team members
* Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Associate's degree in related field
o Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree
* Minimum 5 years of experience in instrument service
* Experience developing and mentoring a team required
* Experience using basic hand tools and inspection equipment required
* A background in the life science drug discovery marketplace is a plus
* Familiar with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices
* A demonstrated level of consistency in performance and aptitude for managing additional responsibility and accountability are required for next level consideration

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Working knowledge of instrument repair with a strong understanding of mechanical dynamics
* Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints
* Demonstrated knowledge of electromechanical components
* Strong mechanical/electrical fundamentals and analytical background
o Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
* Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact schedules, accuracy and reliability of data, and product quality
* Demonstrate excellence in teamwork, commitment, planning and organization
* Track record of successful management and/or supervision over the work others
* Proficiency in MS Office and other related software
* A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding production environment with changing priorities
o Ability to independently complete assignments with minimal supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the work place
* Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may require up to 30% travel in U.S. and abroad.
