Job/Internship Description

Summary:

The Student Intern Program is a part or full-time 12-to-15-week paid program designed to complement and enhance academic studies through participation in different assignments and professional responsibilities within Newport Hospital. This is an opportunity to gain significant knowledge and experience in a state-of-the-art award-winning health care facility that offers a wide array of services to the community.

Student Interns will work collaboratively as part of a team within a specific discipline at Newport Hospital: Administration Patient Experience Development Strategic Relations Finance or Facilities. Reports to senior discipline leader.

This 12-to-15-week paid intern program will be based out of Newport Hospital and there may be opportunities for involvement on Lifespan system-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Work alongside a mentor and be responsible for meaningful contributions to help Newport Hospital achieve its business goals.

  • Participate in a variety of initiatives within the team.
  • Contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions offering insights and suggestions for improvement and innovation.
  • Engage in learning and development opportunities gaining exposure to various aspects of the organization and industry best practices.
  • Provide support to team assisting with process enhancements and communications to improve service delivery and team collaboration.

Complete an individual project within the assigned discipline presented to Senior Management Team.

Build positive internal business relationships and collaborate with cross functional teams.

Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Ability to always remain professional and handle confidential information in a professional manner.

Team oriented and able to work in a cooperative fashion with diverse groups of employees and affiliated staff across the organization.

Excellent computer skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required.

Possess and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills engaging in direct open honest interaction with a willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback. Exhibits effective listening skills.

Ability to multi-task stay organized and be proactive at all times. Be resourceful and present potential solutions when necessary. Adherence to deadlines and strong problem-solving skills. High attention to detail.

Have an active interest in working in a fully integrated health care delivery system

QUALIFICATIONS:


Must be a junior or senior year college student or recent college graduate who received academic credit at an accredited college or university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Available to work part or a full-time schedule.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Frequent sitting. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional reaching extending hands and arms at or above/ below shoulder level.


INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Functions independently within the department*s policies and procedures. Refers specific complex issues to supervisor when clarification of policies and procedures is required.
