Overview

Merrick is a growing Colorado based employee-owned consulting engineering firm. The Company's long-range plan is to continue to grow our high-tech and community focused water resources team that currently includes over 100 talented professionals. The primary water team office is located in Denver, Colorado with five Merrick offices outside of Colorado that offer water resources services including three offices in Idaho (Boise, McCall and Lewiston), one office in Texas (San Antonio) and one office in North Carolina (Charlotte).

The Market Sector Leader's role will involve leadership of the entire water resources team that includes a water & wastewater division and an urban stormwater division.

The individual must be a leader with the ability to establish a vision and related strategies and inspire others to grow a national water resource consulting practice.

The primary focus will include management, business development and quality control for the water market sector team across all Merrick offices that includes promoting and providing solutions to water problems.

This key individual will have demonstrated leadership in the profession through responsible positions in professional associations; current responsibilities and successful record for leading the profitable growth of a multi-office water practice; experience at creating and integrating regional offices, including mergers and acquisitions.

It is Merrick's intention to provide comprehensive services - from conceptual planning through the final design and construction phases - all to incorporate engineering excellence.

Typical annual pay range for this position is $160,000 - $215,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise group (team) leaders. Managing, with team leaders, the team's marketing program and project assignments to attain high quality products.
  • Monitor, mentor, and evaluate Group and Team Leaders within the water market sector team. Provide advice and leadership as needed to attain both quality and profitability goals.
  • Provide, or obtain, the expertise required for each specialty project to obtain high-quality results. Quality control responsibility for all office production.
  • Manage/organize the office for efficiency, e.g. make sure right professional(s) are assigned to specific jobs; appropriate standard contract documents/specifications are available; provide practical educational seminars, etc. Some hands-on direct participation is expected.
  • Supervise/assist with Marketing and BD Program. Be visible in the water market, with a focus on the Colorado geographic market.
  • Oversee the development of fee proposals, contractual documents, risk management practices, contract negotiations, change order processes, conflict resolutions, and billing/collection practices. Review/approve major and/or sensitive proposals.
  • Direct the development and employment of operational procedures and tools as necessary to ensure the water team is technically trained and equipped to be effective, efficient and competitive in providing high quality services.
  • Work with Business Unit management relative to growth, staffing, and financial performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related Technical degree from an accredited Program is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Fifteen (15) plus years of experience in water engineering required; with experience in Colorado strongly preferred.
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) State of Colorado or the ability to obtain registrations within 12 months preferred.
  • High ethical standards, unquestionably trustworthy.
  • The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, be sociable and friendly and to effectively interface with clients in the water sector.
  • Colorado (multi-state preferable) PE registration is required.
  • Must have demonstrated success in Marketing and Business Development professional engineering services in the water market.
  • Must be capable of directing and managing a multi-discipline team of design engineers or technicians on water/wastewater or urban stormwater projects.
  • Dedicated to quality - "must do it right".
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience in Business Development and Project Management for municipal water projects.
  • Strong technical design experience in water projects.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Location

To align with current staffing, candidates may be considered for home basing in the following office locations in which the IE team operates: Greenwood Village, CO; Denver, CO; Loveland, CO; San Antonio, TX; Charlotte, NC; and Boise, ID.
