District Manager (DM)

Base Pay Rate: Will Commensurate with Experience

Office: Baltimore Gateway Business Park (Baltimore City)

Coverage Area: (Harford County, Cecil County, Anne Arundel, Howard County & Baltimore County)


JOB SUMMARY: The District Manager is responsible for all aspects of retail store operations of assigned store locations through overseeing functions including materials management and donation processing, sales and production performance, store appearance, staff management and customer service. Typically, the District Manager has an assigned district of between 6-10 stores varying in annual store sales. Those with Warehouse/Operations Management, Fast Food/Restaurant Management, or Bog Box Management experience may be a good fit for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for store stock levels and merchandising, assuring stores are full and well stocked with fresh and quality product; Works with store management to ensure daily production and processing goals are met while ensuring product is of an appropriate quality
  • Plans, delivers and promotes the strategy surrounding the consistent flow of donated goods from the backroom to the sales floor considering organizational standards in regards to donation per square foot
  • Conducts regular store visits and monthly audits to ensure compliance to standards in the areas of product quality and quantity, merchandising, stock rotation, loss prevention, customer service, process improvement, material collection and management, processing, pricing, personnel, safety and organizational policies
  • Reviews, tracks and analyzes operation of stores on a continuing basis to determine significant performance factors and takes corrective action when necessary; Assesses stores with declining performance to identify problem areas and builds innovative strategies for improvement; Provides coordination in the development of long and short range plans to ensure retail stores meet operational, production and sales goals
  • Provides store managers with the support and training needed to perform and achieve performance, production and sales objectives; Motivates, coaches, trains and leads store teams to achieve production and sales goals and expected performance results; Evaluates the efficiency and productivity of store managers, providing action plans to establish performance standards and objectives
  • Ensures that material selection and pricing levels meet company standards and achieve maximum sales and profits
  • Actively participates in establishing annual store budgets and sales/production goals; Partners with in-store management to control operating expenses, promote and increase sales and ensure daily/weekly production goals are met; Accountable to achieve designated sales and expense to revenue budgets
  • Develops consistent merchandising plans including seasonal displays, sales floor layout, fixture usage and sales or special promotions; Renovates existing stores to match appearance standards when needed
  • Conducts regional store manager meetings on system-wide topics and cross functional training and team activities
  • Responds to customer inquiries and attempts to resolve complaints regarding sales or service in a timely manner
  • Works with Loss Prevention to protect company assets, bringing concerns up immediately and participating in investigations when necessary; Educates in-store staff on the importance of loss prevention, how to identify and respond to possible loss prevention concerns both internal and external
  • Promotes and enforces the maintenance of a safe working and shopping environment; Educates in-store staff on the importance of safety and how to identify and respond to safety concerns; Reviews safety reports and responds to issues immediately
  • Implements plans to develop and train staff to build bench strength so there is always a pipeline of associates ready to be promoted. This is especially important in all areas of store management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management or related discipline or 5 years of retail management experience in a supervisory capacity. This supervisory capacity can include time as an assistant manager providing one can demonstrate a progression of responsibility including number of associates managed and sales volume of stores managed.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

  • Directly supervises Store Managers assigned to district; Typically a staff of between 6-10 full time managers
  • Indirectly supervises retail store staff in various roles and locations; Typically a staff of between 50 - 100 full employees

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license with access to own transportation

  • Intermediate level computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook; Basic understanding and knowledge to use the Internet to perform searches and obtain information
  • Solid understanding of product merchandising with the ability to create visually appealing displays
  • Displays compassion and respect for people from diverse backgrounds, various skill levels, special needs, and barriers to employment with the ability to develop effective working relationships

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • More than 75% of working time.
  • Must have access to personal vehicle

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
