Job Description:

HOC has four (4) residential host sites for Montgomery County's Senior Nutrition Program. The Nutrition Program Aide is a part-time temp position, working a minimum of 15 hrs a week, Monday through Friday from 10am-1:30pm, that oversees the senior's lunch program. Please note, that this position requires that the applicant is available for a mandatory meeting once a quarter with Montgomery County Senior Nutrition Program Staff and Caterer and mandatory meetings with HOC Supervisor three times a year outside of program operating hours. This position requires candidates to complete mandatory HOC staff training throughout the course of the year.

The goal of this program is to provide nutritious meals in a sociable environment at locations where other activities and information about other services for seniors are available. The "Nutrition Site Manager/Aide" or "Lunch Manager" serves as general manager for the meal program at each site, working with employees at the site and coordinating the activities of volunteers at mealtime while following program policies and procedures. The Nutrition Site Manager/Aide may work with a server from the caterer or Site Managers who are certified Food Service Managers may serve meals delivered in bulk by the caterer.

Nutrition Program Manager/ Aide Responsibilities:

Assisting Participants

  • Explain the program to new participants
  • Helps participants complete the Participant Registration Forms
  • Acquaints participants with other people
  • Informs participates about site policies and procedures

Site/ Administrative Duties

  • Available at the site before, during and after the meal
  • Oversees the activities of volunteers
  • Post a menu at the site and provides menus to participants

  • Makes sure the dining room is set up for meal service
  • Receives meals: confirms that delivery is correct and that food temperatures are within safe range.
  • Sign caterer's delivery slip
  • Posts a Cost-of-your Meal sign and oversees the collection of voluntary contributions in a locked container
  • Utilizes the Swipe Terminal for all meal recipients according to instructions.
  • Sends requests for swipe cards to the Senior Nutrition Program, as needed
  • Takes Meal Reservations and Cancellations
  • Orders meals and supplies from caterer.
  • Takes the temperature of hot and cold foods on arrival and keeps a log of temperatures.
  • Completes deposit slips and deposits the money in the bank according to directions for individual sites
  • Completes Senior Nutrition Program Forms
  • Attend quarterly Nutrition Site Manager Meetings
  • Contacts swipe system IT number when problems occur
  • Ensures that all participants have a swipe card and swipes before each meal.
  • Cooperates with special requests from the Senior Nutrition Office.

  • Must have the ability to relate well to people of diverse backgrounds, cultures and seniors.
  • Must possess excellent assessment, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Must have the ability to meet deadlines and be reliable.
  • Must have good computer skills (Word & Excel).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Low income residents
