Job Description

The Institute for Computational Medicine (ICM) is seeking a Research Assistant that will assist in the day-to-day logistical and operational tasks with a focus on conducting studies involving biomarker discovery from brain imaging data and applications that include Epilepsy, frontal temporal Dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. The Research Assistant will also contribute to the research efforts of the PI's research team, attend group meetings, and collaborate on other projects as needed.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of state-of-the-art literature on generalization in deep learning.
  • Perform data collection and analysis under the supervision of Sr. researchers.
  • Implement computational experiments to test for potential theory and to gain experimental insights.
  • Design methodology to evaluate the specific problems.
  • Implement experiments to validate different models.
  • Maintain paper and computerized research files.
  • Participate in research group meetings with the PI as well as with related collaborators on the project.
  • Prepare mandatory reports and documents/protocols.
  • Present and communicate results and progress updates clearly.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong coding skills in Python and MATLAB required.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Statistical modeling experience preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience with programming.
  • Willingness to learn specialized software used in the research.

Starting Salary Range: Min $17.00 - Max $30.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
