General Summary
This role provides direct crisis intervention services for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations in the Emergency Department and in hospital units. Completed psychiatric assessments and formulates dispositions with physicians, healthcare professionals, families, hospitals and community professionals. Applies knowledge of diagnostic criteria to evaluate and recommend appropriate level of care for behavioral health patients. Responsible for obtaining authorizations for inpatient services. Provides behavioral health education as needed.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  1. Provides crisis intervention services.
  2. Provides psychosocial assessment and utilizes other resources to gather information to complete evaluation of patients as ordered by the physician or on-call provider.
  3. Provides consultation, education, and support services to Team Members in the ED and medical units.
  4. Demonstrates skills and competencies for child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups and appropriately adjusts techniques to meet age-specific needs using interpersonal skills/therapeutic communication congruent to the age/developmental stage of the patient, family, and/or significant other.
  5. Manages patients' aggressive behavior according to policies and protocols.
  6. Completes all required documentation in a clear and timely manner. Completes hand-off communication with next shift.
  7. Obtains all required insurance authorizations for inpatient admissions.
  8. Facilitates appropriate follow-up care per disposition and in collaboration with the provider and others involved in the patient's treatment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Master's Degree in Human Services (i.e. Social Work, Professional Counseling)required.
  2. Currently licensed as a LGPC or LMSW in the state of Marylandrequired. LCPC or LCSW-C preferred
  3. Previous psychiatric clinical experience preferred.
