Job Description

Fibertek is a leading developer of laser and electro-optic systems for the aerospace community, with key contributions to lasers for atmospheric sensing, laser communications, and lidar sensors for NASA, DoD, and commercial customers. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Army Research Laboratory (ARL) division onsite in Adelphi, MD. The ARL Cleanroom requires engineering, processing, and maintenance support in Micromachining. This area includes conventional semiconductor processing (lithography, deposition and etch), working with conventional and novel materials, metrology, packaging, as well as new and state of the art processes such as laser direct write on curved-surfaces and reentrant flow 3-D printing.

As the Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for fabrication, engineering, and maintenance support in the area of Micromachining. This area includes conventional semiconductor processing equipment such as (lithography, deposition and etch), working with conventional and novel materials, metrology, packaging, Support activities shall include the following:

  • Support the installation and maintenance for process development for working with both established and novel materials, and to achieve both well established and state of the art geometries and structures.
  • Supporting a safe research environment by developing and recommending SOPs and rules.
  • Support the maintenance of semiconductor process equipment through the development and execution of maintenance schedules, consulting with vendors, and hands on troubleshooting and repair as necessary.
  • Support the planning, and execution of equipment installation in the Cleanroom including facilities development and vendor coordination.
  • Support the maintenance of cryogenic equipment through vendor selection and operations and repair on-site.

This position is a service-oriented position that requires performing a variety of tasks in support of a diverse Department of Defense (DoD) research environment within a nanofabrication cleanroom facility. Tasks, duties, and responsibilities include:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on a variety of research equipment for cleanroom and micromachining processing to keep the equipment operational and within specification.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems within the ARL cleanroom.
  • Support facilities and equipment which include contact aligners, spin coaters, wafer track coater, spray coater, microscale 3D printer, and inspection microscopes.
  • Support training cleanroom users on contact aligners, spin coaters, wafer track coater, spray coater, microscale 3D printer, and inspection microscopes.
  • Provide maintenance support for cleanroom tools.
  • Support users with cleanroom processes development, document best practices, and carry out process monitors.
  • Interact with equipment vendors as necessary.
Job Requirements

Experience and expertise required:

  • Bachelor's degree desired, STEM preferred. Minimum of two-year degree/trade school.
  • Knowledge and experience fabricating and duplicating parts using advanced machinery (mills and lathes)
  • Demonstrated experience doing orbital welding and layout of gaseous delivery systems including gas cabinets for inert and toxic gases.
  • Experience working on or with semiconductor tools, specifically contact aligners, coating/development track tools, laser lithography tools, microscale 3D printers, and optical microscopes.
  • Problem solving skills with electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems resident in semiconductor tools.
  • Mechanically inclined (experience with hand tools).
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other layout editors.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a cleanroom environment.
  • Able to gain medical clearance to wear a respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Able to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Good attention to detail and documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, self-starter, punctual, and good attendance record with the desire to develop professionally.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in R&D cleanroom and/or micromachining operations and support
  • At least 3 years DoD experience desired
