Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team! We are looking for a certified Medical Sonographer with experience in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, carotid, vascular, breast and testicular scanning.

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will conduct ultrasound examinations to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data. Obtain patient history, explain procedures, and address patient concerns. Reviews results for quality and completeness and refers to physician for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Lead shall additionally provide leadership and guidance to the Radiology department associates and possesses and demonstrates appropriate knowledge and technique to provide appropriate clinical care to the specific patient population.

Primary Duties:

  • Follows departmental imaging standards by performing high quality imaging of the selected anatomic areas as requested by the ordering physician in a safe and effective manner, including properly labeling images, explaining the exam to patients, and obtaining pertinent clinical information by the Radiologists, history, and consent for procedure. Properly identifies patients with two patient identifiers (Name and DOB), while maintaining the HIPPA integrity of the patient.

  • Assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocenteses, paracenteses, thoracenteses, and patient exam marking procedures while maintaining sterile technique. Possesses and demonstrates adequate knowledge/competency to provide Ultrasound services with techniques appropriate to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Select appropriate transducer to be used, depending upon depth of field, organ to be identified on the order exam region of interest.

  • Performs examination completion in RIS and PACS ensuring all images are processed, archived and available to the Radiologist for interpretation. Responsible for maintenance and care of departmental facilities in compliance with all hospital infection control policies. All treatment rooms/areas are cleaned and stocked.

  • Responsible for the coordination of patient exam flow through the department and assist the office staff, ER staff, Nursing staff with the scheduling of patients. Explain procedures to patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results.

  • Provides the utmost attention to the individual medical needs, dignity, and comfort of all patients in support of the established mission and values.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Graduate of accredited ultrasound technologist program.

  • Registry eligible as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

  • Experience in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, carotid, vascular, breast and testicular scanning.

  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation.
