Will be on the job trained in physical/occupational therapy, speech therapy and cast room procedures and activities in order to perform a wide range of rehabilitative services in support of the hospital's mission, to provide the highest standard of patient care within the limit of the available resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Formal patient care training or Rehabilitation care training.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Assists the rehabilitation therapists with developed treatment programs for both inpatients and outpatients plans of care.

2. Prepare patients for treatment, i.e., proper attire, slippers, obtains equipment, and whirlpool preparation.

3. Cleans department equipment following patient treatment. This will include treatment tables, weights, whirlpools, and any other items used for patient treatments.

4. Monitors the integrity of patients' monitoring and invasive devices at all times during treatment provided by therapist and rehab tech, both in the Rehabilitation Services Department and units.

5. Observes and reports to therapists all patient concerns or changes in condition, while under the care of Rehabilitation Department Staff.

6. Safely assists in the transport and handling of all patients according to WVUH's Safe Patient Handling Policy and follows current care plan and algorithm for patient handling using the appropriate equipment.

7. Applies, modifies, and remove casts, splints, and dressings, either independently or under direct supervision, for assigned orthopedic patients according to physician orders.

8. Supplies, assembles, and inspects traction on all inpatients as ordered, to assure the timely availability and safety of equipment.

9. Performs a wide range of technical functions in support of the medical treatment of orthopedic patients.

10. Maintains patient's scheduled gym appointments and coordinates transportation with the therapists and patient transport.

11. Maintains supply inventory.

12. Routinely scouts Nursing units to retrieve equipment clean and place back into inventory for patient use.

13. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital's goals and objectives.

14. Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. The National Institute for occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and repositioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.

2. Heavy/Hard work:Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.

3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
