HDR Engineering is currently seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineering Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.

As an Electrical Distribution Engineering Manager (EM) in a well-established Power Delivery practice, you'll draw upon your broad technical knowledge and experience in design and construction of electric overhead and underground distribution line projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams. Having previously performed a leading technical role on increasingly complex distribution line projects, you'll be ready to undertake greater challenges and responsibilities. You will develop a partnership with a Project Manager (PM), whereas the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and overall client management, you will be responsible for technical execution of the project.

Duties also include building local teams and/or leveraging existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to clients. You may also support business development activities, including technical support of proposal development, for existing and/or new clients across the practice. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor and train junior technical staff locally and/or in other offices.

Specific duties include:

* Leveraging technical experience and expertise while working in close coordination with a PM, to manage and execute the engineering and design components of distribution projects.

* Developing and implementing a project execution plan for the technical aspect of distribution projects.

* Working independently and/or directing, mentoring, training, and/or supervising one or more Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, CADD technicians and administrative staff.

* Supporting the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.

* Coordinating and/or leading the QA/QC process on projects per HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements with a commitment to delivering world class quality.

* Performing quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.

* Participating in project reviews as needed.

* At times, leading multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.

* Working with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attending training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to the electrical distribution industry.

* At times, assisting with development of technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of distribution line design experience required.
  • Experience with the NESC.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Development of technical papers and/or presentations that showcase technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM
  • Overhead and underground electrical design experience.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Experience with electrical and planning analysis software i.e. CYMCAP, ETAP or Polywater Pull Planner
  • Experience with design tools for pole loading analysis: i.e. O-calc, SpidaCalc or Pole Foreman
  • Experience using Cad software packages for Electrical Distribution i.e. PLS-CADD, MicroStation/AutoCAD/ArcGIS
  • Experience with New Business Designs for Residential, Commercial, and industrial Projects
  • Experience with reliability, grid modernization, electrification and conversion projects
