HDR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Industrial team in Savannah (Pooler), GA, which provides engineering consulting services to industrial customers located across the U.S. This position includes leading and supporting a variety of projects involving various hydrocarbon storage and transporting facilities, including natural gas, liquified natural gas, and liquid petroleum products. The team is also expanding its footprint in the renewable energy and alternative fuels markets. This individual will work with a multi-discipline group of engineers and technicians providing engineering and design services to the O&G clients. Typical projects involve will involve life extension and system upgrades of existing facilities as well as design of new facilities. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will be expected to:

  • Produce mechanical system designs including P&IDs, equipment sizing, detailed design, and system calculations
  • Prepare equipment and design specifications
  • Perform pipe stress analyses for process piping.
  • Perform equipment and contractor bid evaluations
  • Perform site inspections
  • Provide remote support and occasional field visits during installation, testing and start-up
  • Perform feasibility studies and conceptual design evaluations
  • Prepare project cost estimates
  • Assist with client presentations and preparation of client proposals
  • Coordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers with the balance of a multi-discipline team throughout the project's development
  • Establish effective client relationships and participate in marketing, design and production meetings with regard to mechanical systems
  • Serve as the mechanical lead on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager, and other discipline engineers
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work efforts with the project team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon budget and schedule
  • Assist project manager in keeping the project team focused on scope and identifying potential change order tasks
  • Participate with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director in project reviews with corporate management as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related discipline from an ABET accredited university
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience including experience in design and operational support of electrical generation stations
  • Experience with preparing procurement and design specifications for new installations as well as upgrade/replacement of existing equipment
  • Experience with AutoPipe, Ceasar II or similar software
  • Experience with design of hydrocarbon facility mechanical systems (e.g., rotating equipment, heat exchangers, control valves, metering, compressed air, etc.)
  • Proficiency in the use of standard PC software: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, or similar programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail, self-directed learning, meeting deadlines, and multi-tasking are also required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with preparation of feasibility studies for large hydrocarbon facilities
  • Experience with the design, manufacture, testing and/or operation of hydrocarbon facility mechanical equipment including turbines, compressors, cooling towers and heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and other mechanical components.
  • Previous employment with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm supporting heavy industrial clients
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience
  • Ability to serve / previous experience in Project Lead Engineer role for Mechanical Engineering Discipline
  • Experience with NavisWorks, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, and/or other 3D-database driven design processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera a plus
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to act as a Team Leader
