Job Description

Position Objective:

The position is responsible for supporting the success of the hospital's strategic objectives and mission as they relate to patient access, customer satisfaction and optimal utilization of nursing staffing. This includes optimizing access to hospital beds at all levels of care and interfacing with external organizations to facilitate efficient flow. In addition this position Identifies, formulates and recommends changes in patient flow to hospital executives to ensure the success of strategic objectives.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Provides work direction and resources as needed to manage patient throughput organizationally.
  2. Monitors departmental operations, patient flow tracking, ADT information regarding hospital census and bed availability.
  3. Works to match patient demand from various access points into the hospital including the Emergency Department, Observation Unit and the Operating Rooms to optimize capacity.
  4. Monitors, develops, reviews and makes recommendations to hospital leadership regarding programs and processes impacting efficient throughput.
  5. Interprets organizational throughput goals and objectives to staff. Facilitates staff discussion and response to issues that affect nursing practice and efficient care delivery.
  6. Manages and directs operations and resources of the Central Staffing Office organizationally, as needed, to optimize patient throughput, taking into consideration physician efficiencies in patient placement.
  7. Establishes standard operating procedures for staff in bed board and administrative coordinators; ensures the establishment of clear and concise work procedures and expectations, as well as assessment of performance.
  8. Develops patient centered, customer driven market oriented business plans. Implements change processes and tracks and evaluates progress of specific initiatives. Identifies new opportunities for efficiencies, improved outcomes, and cost control and recommends changes as necessary.
  9. Develop and evaluate program change to improve quality, efficiency, and service to meet throughput requirements.
  10. Institute and monitor clinical quality control mechanisms, standards of operation, compliance with Medical Systems policies and procedures, JC AHO guidelines and federal, state and local statutes governing the delivery of health care services.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Master's degree in a clinical discipline is required.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of advanced clinical practice in a broad spectrum of nursing disciplines and the ability to guide clinical practice.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland is required.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
