General Summary of Position


Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for an Echocardiograph Technologist to join our team! We are looking for a credentialed technician with a background in cardiac ultrasound.

As an Echocardiograph Technologist, you will conduct echocardiograph studies according to physician's orders. Advises cardiologists of results of examination, provides diagnostic evaluation, and reports abnormalities.

Primary Duties:

  • Performs echocardiograms for newborn (via telemedicine), adult and geriatric patients. Receives physicians order for inpatient and outpatients. Reviews electronic medical record for pertinent history and documents brief history in electronic medical record for cardiologist.

  • Prepares patients for procedure, considering their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Follows proper procedure for transport of patients when applicable. Examines the heart from the appropriate echo views assessing wall motion, valve function, chamber size, and any abnormalities seen.

  • Recognize significant pathology, notify interpreting physician of critical results. Initiate CRRT as appropriate. Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Notify biomed of all equipment malfunctions. Notify supervisor of equipment and malfunctions.

  • Assists with stress tests and EKGs PRN. Takes on-call for echo services with sixty-minute response time.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Credentialed technician with background in cardiac ultrasound or another allied health field with classes in 2D, M-Mode, doppler and color flow instruction.
