General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is actively seeking a skilled working professional and Lead Technologist responsible for performing a variety of routine and special laboratory procedures in the clinical laboratory. This person is also responsible for evaluating and reporting results according to laboratory protocol and procedures and federal and state regulations, for use in patient diagnosis and treatment.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates and assists in supervising and coordinating the daily work in the Clinical Laboratory. Assists in developing standard operating procedures for new tests or procedures and implements new tests and systems. Continually evaluates effectiveness of SOP's.
  • Ensures all testing and processes adhere to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, FDA, and AABB regulations as indicated for each technical area of supervision. Assists in reviewing daily workload and quality control, follows up on any quality or timeliness variances as needed. Functions as a technical resource for staff scientists.
  • Assists in assuring accurate inventory control is maintained. Facilitates staff attending meetings and other hospital activities. Is able to respond appropriately in emergent situations that may arise in the laboratory environment.
  • Serves as a resource scientist when supervisors of specialized area are not available. Performs special projects, as assigned. Assists supervisor and/or manager with other administrative and technical functions, as directed.
  • Supports direct reports for evening and night shift. Participates in the interview process and facilitates staff involvement or peer interviews. New employees training. Actively participates in the planning, organizing, and completion of laboratory orientation and technical training Specific to responsible shifts. Assists supervisors in assuring all competency assessments for designated associates is completed.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Scientist required

    Experience

    • Two (2) years of experience in a clinical lab is required, preferably including one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • ASCP - Medical Technologist ASCP (MT or MLS) Registry or equivalent required and
    • AMT - Medical Lab Technician - AMTMLT CLS or AMT acceptable required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
    • Moderate Computer skills to perform Data entry and specimen verification.
    • Software: Computerized laboratory information systems, Clinicians View, Microsoft Word, Excel
    • HIPAA policies on Confidentiality
