Performs as Lead Scribe in Emergency Medicine. Provides leadership, support and education to the staff Scribes to assure quality for documentation of the physician's or licensed independent practitioner's dictation and/or activities. Will also perform scribe duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous experience as a Scribe required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Two years of college level coursework in applicable course of study(i.e. biology, chemistry, physics) preferred.

1. Completes the monthly schedule for staff.

2. Ensures full scheduled shift coverage, as well as coverage for emergency call-outs

3. Accesses Kronos to review scribe timecards.

4. Communicates departmental updates to scribe staff.

5. Serves as liaison between the Business Manager and physicians.

6. Ensures employee compliance with WVU Medicine policies and procedures as well as the performance expectations of the entity or entities where the Lead Scribe is assigned to work and/or implied. This will also include updating scribe compliance with hospital requirements.

7. Coordinates and facilitates training of scribes to assure that a knowledge current procedure, practices and equipment is established and maintained.

8. Supervises distribution and status of hospital property.

9. In coordination with leadership, participates in monthly chart reviews and audits. Assists leadership with scribe staff improvements.

10. In coordination with leadership and physician, provides input on scribes' performance evaluations and improvement opportunities. Participates in quarterly observation reviews for each scribe.

11. In coordination with leadership, completes employee warnings, when necessary.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of: Emergency department flow, efficiency management, medical-legal documentation, medical terminology, physical exam findings, and Evaluation and Management (E&M) bill basics.

2. Qualities:Organization, professionalism, ability to take the initiative, dependability, efficiency, responsiveness, work ethic, ability to offer and provide feedback, courtesy positive attitude, and attentiveness to detail.

3. Typing speed of 50 wpm preferred.
