Responsible for obtaining trans-thoracic echocardiograms including real time, pulsed Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, color Doppler and fetal echoes (when applicable) in the pediatric population. Compiles data required by the pediatric cardiologist on all studies. Responsible for doing all other duties that may be assigned at the discretion of the manager and/or the Medical Director in addition to proper billing of the procedures and prioritizing patient scheduling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Registered in ARDMSORCCI in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE)

2. Five (5) years' experience within an IAC Accredited Facility

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Registered Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer "Principal Duties and Responsibilities" in providing age- appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients

2. Performs trans-thoracic echocardiograms and fetal echocardiograms (when applicable) according to the requirements set by the CVIS Lab protocols.

3. The Sonographer will possess an understanding of congenital heart defects and the surgical repairs allowing them to obtain quality images for the Cardiologist who is interpreting the study.

4. Each Sonographer is responsible for entering correct patient demographics, caregivers and study information.

5. Maintains necessary supplies and linen in the echo room assigned for the week.

6. Each Sonographer is responsible for keeping the echo room, machine, and the echo office clean.

7. Each Sonographer is responsible for the cleaning of the TEE probes.

8. Participates in research projects as requested.

9. Attends and participates in the monthly pediatric QA conference, the monthly departmental staff meetings.

10. Each Sonographer is responsible to participate in a rotating call schedule and respond within department Guidelines. Also, there is a rotating weekly assignment that each Sonographer participates in and it is the responsibility of the Sonographer to get coverage for an assignment that they cannot cover.

11. Assists Technical Manager and Medical Director in evaluation of new equipment and Sonographers.

12. Provides an Echocardiography orientation to Cardiology Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Sonography students if requested.

13. Each Sonographer is responsible for making a service call to Biomed when there is an equipment failure. Will also provide this information to lead to adjust schedules accordingly.

14. Provides teaching and positive mentorship to new and junior level Sonographers

15. Each Sonographer is responsible for maintaining the required CME for their pediatric echocardiography registration. If the Sonographer is registered in adult echocardiography or fetal they would also be required to meet those CME requirements as well.

16. Participates in department QI initiatives and education for JACHO and EOC rounds.

17. Assist the Lead and the supervisor with cases studies and guidance in required materials and documentation for the Accreditation with the Accreditation Commission (IAC)

3. Hearing (aid permitted) - must be able to function without use of lip reading.
