Provides technical assistance, instructional and behavioral support to school-based staff in the implementation of special education services for students in low-incidence categories (i.e., Autism, PAL, Life Skills, PRIDE, DHOH, Vision)

Essential Functions
  • Plans and executes the implementation of instructional, behavioral and social/emotional strategies to assist teachers and support staff in successfully providing special education services to students with disabilities.
  • Develops and disseminates technical assistance and guidance materials to ensure consistent implementation of policies and regulations by all school employees including teachers, related services staff and administrators as it relates to students with IEPs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Coordinator-Special Education Academic Supports to provide technical support to schools in the development, implementation and monitoring of high-quality standards-based IEPs.
  • Works with teachers and school-based staff to implement supports needed for students.
  • Develops and delivers professional development activities that provides school staff with the knowledge and skills needed to help students with skills identified on their IEPs.
  • Monitors students' progress and the development and implementation of quality standards-based IEPs.
  • Consults with IEP Teams and area-based staff and assists in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Provides knowledge of content, curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies to accelerate learning for students pursuing certificate of completion and/or a diploma track.
  • Monitors the use of assistive technology in the learning environment to support with disabilities
  • Serves as a liaison between schools, parents and community.
  • Consults in behavior management techniques.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
Maximum Salary 107495.00
Minimum Salary 82017.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree or in education or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Four years teaching experience, preferably with students with special needs.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate required, Administrator I endorsement preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation and guidelines governing the education of students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Alternative Framework and Maryland School Assessment (ALT-MSA) process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills that encourage effective teambuilding.
  • Effective organization and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prepare resource materials and provide guidance and professional development to teachers and school-based staff.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office and Excel.
