Coordinates the design, planning, evaluation and integration of clinical education and
professional development activities so as to maintain consistent standards of practice and competencies in the delivery of patient care. Supports unit leadership team by demonstrating effective leadership, communication and conflict resolution skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 2 years in area of practice OR Associate's degree in Nursing with 4 years in area of practice.

2. Current licensure to practice professional nursing in West Virginia

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date

1. Conducts initial and on-going rounds throughout the day communicating with charge RNs, OR control desk, college staff members, and surgeons to ensure cases proceed as planned.

2. Reviews OR schedule minimally one week in advance for specific case needs-including potential staff training needs, equipment, implants, and other specialty items.

3. Expedites first case on-time starts and room turnover striving to meet all OR efficiency and quality benchmarks.

4. Updates surgeon preference cards/college instrumentation trays and actively participates in the annual capital equipment planning process including the acquisition of quotes.

5. Partners with SPD, Supply Chain Operations, nursing departments, and physician offices to ensure patient care needs are met.

6. Following Healthcare Industry Representative and policies/procedures, monitors vendors in the patient care areas.

7. Participates in inventory management by adjusting PAR levels, monitoring for expired products, revising custom packs, and performing value analysis functions seeking potential cost savings/containment.

8. Facilitates the nursing unit's education plan for nursing orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, patient education, and academic experiences.

9. Defines and coordinates orientation and staff development needs for all college employees. Individualizes orientation/development, evaluates progress through goal setting, and conducts probationary/annual evaluations including the creation and monitoring of performance action plans.

10. Assists in the development and assessment of annual staff competencies to assure departmental staff members' knowledge and skills fulfill service expectations.

11. Consistently provides opportunities for interaction with employees to discuss professional growth, personal concerns, and educational goals.

12. Demonstrates working knowledge of college staffing plan and required FTEs to match service block scheduling so as to monthly create a working staff college schedule.

13. Leads performance management initiatives including the prep for regulatory surveys.

14. Collaborates with managers to develop unit standards, policies, procedures, protocols, documentation, forms, and performance monitoring tools.

15. Maintains clinical expertise and demonstrates ability to conduct quality/environmental surveillance auditing.

16. Promotes an environment supportive of research/ evidenced based practice by serving as a change agent.

17. Contributes to professional and scholarly nursing activities.

18. Participates in meeting the Goals and Objectives of Perioperative Services and ensures the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital's goals.

19. Role models and follows all WVU Medicine's Standards of Behavior.

20. Demonstrates expert team building skills, problem solving abilities, crucial conversation skills, negotiation, and conflict resolution strategies needed in a high stress environment
