Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking a Graphic and Digital Designer to support the NASA Science Support Office at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

This position is located in Greenbelt, MD, but is temporarily approved for telework due to Covid-19. A hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place in the coming months.

Minimal travel may be needed on occasion (up to 10% including local, domestic, as well as occasional weekend travel.)


Position Summary:

As a member of the NASA Science Support Office (SSO) team, the Graphic and Digital Designer is a full-time position serving SSO in promoting NASA's Science stories in a visual perspective and creating ideas, products, and experiences to demonstrate unconventional thinking leading to sustainable solutions.


Primary Duties:

  • Act as a key driver of visual design craft for concepts, strategies, brands, and presentations.
  • Use current graphic design technology and computer software packages to produce print and digital communications media.
  • Originate design, art, and copy layouts, determining style, size, and arrangement of type and illustrations.
  • Provide schedule and instructions, and directly assemble and prepare final layouts for the printer.
  • Evaluate progress and results and recommend major changes in procedures.
  • This role is accountable for developing visual graphic stories, elevating the look and feel of products, and bringing visual storytelling of NASA Science to maximize impact.
  • Collaborate with SSO team members, scientists, data visualizers, multimedia developers, and producers on the production and dissemination of NASA Science content as an effective communication tool.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • B.S. degree or higher in design, art/creative, and information technology, or a related field and 2-3 years minimum of professional experience required.
  • Must be able to maintain a high-quality bar and self-prioritization to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and growing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to inspire people and work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as lead and participate in teams.
  • Ability to combine a working understanding of scientific concepts with the use of graphic software and communication tools to promote NASA exhibition activities within NASA guidelines.
  • Adhere to brand guideline and complete project according to deadlines.
  • Proficiency in multimedia software including but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Teams. Experience with large format poster.
  • Ability to transform ideas into engaging visuals, products, and graphics to fully communicate project while adhering to NASA guidelines and ensuring proper messaging is being executed in all products (digital and print).
  • Comply with the Rehabilitation Act (Section 508) in all deliverables.
  • Be familiar with NASA's standard concepts, practices, and procedures and help to ensure that service delivery is aligned and fully supports SSO priorities and goals. Recognize opportunities that benefit and increase service value to the organization and GST. A wide degree of creativity and latitude are required.
  • Interact with various levels of Government management, a variety of outreach teams within NASA as well as outside the NASA environment, and professional associations worldwide to coordinate team efforts and build internal and external customer confidence, develop rapport, and build/maintain professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Competency with necessary skills in graphic design and layout, i.e., photo manipulation, Color correction, experience with print prepress inspection is a plus

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (green card) required.
