Nature of Work

The Quality Intern's primary responsibility is to assist in the administration and maintenance of the document control process; to monitor, verify and report on product configurations; to ensure manufacturing processes meet company and customer requirements; and to assist in the quality management functions for TAPCO. This position will take personal responsibility for document administration, the nonconformance & corrective action process, and acting as the voice of the customer. The person will be a highly detail-oriented individual with working knowledge of quality assurance principles. The Quality Intern will creatively assist in procedures which are focused on improving quality in a low volume, high mix of intelligent traffic control devices and supporting products. With a sense of urgency, this person plays a key role in ensuring the quality team meets business, schedule and budget objectives.

This position reports to the Quality Manager and actively communicates with the team. All team members actively engage in healthy dialogue which results in the relentless pursuit of improvement. All members of the TAPCO team put safety fist and care about those surrounding them and aren't fearful of learning from their mistakes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively in activities surrounding the corrective/preventive action system, administers nonconformance activities, and participates in corrective actions.
  • Assists the Quality Administrator with the document life-cycle by updating all documents with the latest revision, checking the distribution of records, assisting in the reconciliation process, and removal of obsolete materials from the Quality and Safety Management Systems.
  • Reviews and maintains quality documentation by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.
  • Contributes to activities surrounding Regulatory Affairs by researching laws and regulations which apply to TAPCO's product offering.
  • Works in a team effort with all staff to manage the Quality Management System (QMS) with TAPCO's business units.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to achieve business deliverables related to facility change controls, documents and records.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Familiar with the fundamentals of a Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Some knowledge with Microsoft Office products.
  • Willingness to gain general knowledge of regulatory standards such as ISO, ASTM, IEEE, NIST (or similar).
  • Capable of reading blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Capable of shifting priorities to support business needs while keeping a high attention to detail.
  • Be tactful and have persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable, able to handle pressure situations and able to prioritize tasks.

Required Experience

  • Actively seeking degrees in a science or business-related discipline.
  • Solid grammar and punctuation skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-rounded organizational skill, communication skill, and customer service skill.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; however, at times the workload may not require full time or may require overtime Monday through Saturday. Some flexibility of scheduling may be necessary in order to accommodate customer's needs.
