About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

Watch Our Story:

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

The Job:

We are seeking an experienced electrical engineer to take a lead role in the electrical engineering for water and wastewater projects in Colorado. This includes performing, leading, and directing the electrical engineering on multiple concurrent small- and mid-size projects or a smaller number of large projects. You will be involved in projects from initial conception through all design phases and the end of project construction and will be expected to be the engineer of record and sign/seal electrical engineering documents for the projects you design.

The initial core of the role is electrical engineering for municipal water and wastewater projects, but additional cross-training opportunities will be available in other industries (mining, data center/mission-critical, power generation, federal etc.) to provide professional growth and stimulation.

You may be a good fit for this job if you have well-rounded experience in municipal electrical engineering and are confident in your skills and abilities. You enjoy the depth and nuance of electrical engineering on water and wastewater projects, while seeking to broaden your experience with new project types in new industries. We'll count on you to bring your experience and skills to the job, while keeping an open mind about alternative approaches to engineering design, production, and problem-solving.

The Team:

You will join a rapidly growing Electrical and Instrumentation & Control team in Colorado. We work as an integrated team fluidly supporting complex engineering projects across a wide range of industries. We come from many backgrounds and believe that our combined experiences and expertise make us a stronger and more valuable team. The majority of our team is based in our Denver office, but a position based in either our Fort Collins office or our Colorado Springs office may be available for a well-qualified candidate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Working knowledge of Instrumentation & Control system design and how I&C and electrical systems interact.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 820, and application of both to water/wastewater projects.
  • Experience managing CAD and engineering production of drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Proficient in standard electrical engineering practices and tools: load calculations, cable and equipment sizing, SKM/ETAP or similar power system modeling, lighting design, one-line diagrams and schedules, specification editing.
  • Experience and confidence in designing a wide range of equipment operating at 480V and lower.
  • Curiosity and open-minded approach to new engineering techniques and problem-solving methods.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and ability to proactively coordinate with other disciplines.
  • An enterprising attitude and intrinsic commitment to being an active participant in our unique and dynamic employee-owned culture is a must.

Ideal Qualifications (in addition to the Minimum Qualifications):

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado.

  • A known entity in the Colorado municipal water/wastewater engineering industry.
  • Broad client contacts and client-facing roles in the Colorado municipal water/wastewater industry.
  • Experience and ability to manage staff in direct-report roles.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and train junior electrical engineers and electrical designers.
  • Knowledge and experience of medium-voltage systems 35kV and lower as applied to industrial and municipal campus settings.
