Full Time opening at the Main Campus of Mass Eye & Ear, M-F 40 hours per week, with benefits and 50% off the MBTA pass.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Executes and designs experiments for translational research to study genetics and gene therapies for inherited retinal degenerations. Applicant would join a growing team of investigators in an expanding, exciting field of science.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct broad range of experiments involving advanced technology; participate in the design of experimental protocols to achieve the scientific objectives of research projects which directly benefit the care of patients.
2. Carry out complex laboratory techniques and procedures, some of which include: cell culture, transfection, viral transduction, immunofluorescence, RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, plasmid design and construction, microscopy, flow cytometry. Access to the latest technology provided.
3. Preferable: Perform minor procedures on small animals (e.g. injections). Training available.
4. Maintain careful paperwork and attention to detail.
5. Performs other general lab duties as assigned.
6. Potential to advance to Senior Research Technologist (or as preparation for graduate studies).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's or master's degree in biological or physical sciences plus two or more year's related experience, with an academic knowledge of basic biology plus the ability to translate, adapt, and apply this knowledge. Applicant can perform intermediate and advanced level research in a health science discipline. Sufficient independent lab experience is required so that experiments can be performed independently, with troubleshooting as needed. In general we interpret this to be consistent with two or more years of full time laboratory experience (outside of undergraduate training).
