Primary Responsibilities

HDR is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner to support a mix of traditional and cutting-edge transportation projects to advance our practice in the Nebraska/Iowa market and across HDR offices globally. The selected individual would be a key leader in the Traffic and Planning Section, leading projects and tasks and mentoring younger staff.

The individual in this position manages and/or supports all aspects of large multi-disciplinary traffic engineering and transportation planning projects which may include:

  • Traffic engineering studies
  • Corridor studies
  • Corridor signal timing and optimization
  • Highway/roadway safety analyses
  • Travel demand forecasting
  • Local, regional and statewide multimodal transportation plans
  • Transportation planning reports
  • Transit studies (rail and bus)
  • Bicycle and pedestrian studies
  • Traffic signal design / ITS design
  • ITS planning and system future-proofing
  • Roadway and bridge projects with major traffic analysis and design components
  • Design-build projects with major traffic analysis and design components
  • Transportation research

The selected individual will work with a team to deliver the above projects. This will include managing projects and tasks, but also completing work independently when needed. They will manage scopes, schedules, and budgets. They will use traffic and planning software to perform or check analyses. They will author reports and memos.

The selected individual will meet career development goals through support and assistance from HDR leadership. Integration into national committees and initiatives within HDR and external organizations will be encouraged and supported.

In addition to project work, the individual will also be an integral part of HDR's marketing and proposal writing team. They will also collaborate with senior leadership and the marketing department to:

  • Market existing and new clients
  • Write/develop proposals
  • Scope projects and set budgets and schedules
  • Actively collaborate with local and statewide section leadership
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or closely related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with transportation engineering and planning, including progressive project management responsibilities.
  • Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Professional Engineering license. Other registrations (PTOE, AICP) desirable.
  • Programming skills/exposure (VBA, Python, Javascript) a plus.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (engineering or planning) preferred.
