General Responsibilities
The admissions coach is responsible for converting applicants to enrolled students. This position creates a positive, personal connection while guiding students through the admissions process by connecting students to resources including and not limited to academic advising, registration, placement testing, financial aid, scholarships, and other payment options, and orientation to ensure students are set up for success. This position will coordinate, activities and communication campaigns designed to move applicants to enroll in Howard Community College as their higher education institution. A successful admissions coach helps students navigate through all aspects of enrollment with a holistic approach, enthusiasm, exceptional communication, engagement, outreach, and attention to detail.

  • Manages a large caseload of new, transfer, dual enrollment, N/AH and personal interest community college applicants to determine if there are barriers to enrollment and success at HCC.
  • Employs technology and strategies to help students navigate through the enrollment and registration process.
  • Helps with first course selection and other support as needed to start the first semester.
  • Provides guidance and support through the enrollment process assisting students as needed with the submission of required documentation and completion of registration activities.
  • Ensure students have a plan to pay by assisting with the financial aid and scholarship application process.
  • Contacts assigned roster of admitted students to set up initial and follow-up appointments.
  • Tracks and monitors student enrollment progress.
  • Follows communication plan to maintain student momentum and assist students as needed to overcome enrollment obstacles.
  • Clearly communicates enrollment requirements and refers to campus resources as needed to ensure student success.
  • Cultivates connections with students to keep them engaged in the process.
  • Develops and conducts programs and workshops to assist students and parents through the enrollment process. These programs require significant collaboration with other departments and offices across campus.
  • Provides on-going quality communication, effective customer service, and support to applicants by using consistent, effective outreach and follow-up contacts including in-person activities, phone calls, and digital communication; documents and tracks contact data into student information systems ensuring compliance with any regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and updates records and files on admission activities along with collected student information using the college's client relationship management system and student information system; creates and submits reports.
  • Works with personal interest students to navigate registration and educating students on tools and resources.
  • Other duties as assigned related to navigating the enrollment process.

  • Ability to meet complex goals and collaborate with various departments on key initiatives
  • Knowledge of college admission, financial aid processes, and community outreach.
  • Competency in organizing data and preparing reports required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate with applicants via social media modalities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; confidence speaking in small/large groups and with people from diverse backgrounds; ability to quickly establish rapport and engage applicants; and ability to persuade students to complete enrollment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work/travel independently and set priorities to achieve goals/objectives required.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.
  • Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students and parents.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws including FERPA.
Working Conditions
Regular attendance and an ability to work mornings, evenings and/or weekends consistent with college needs. Work extended hours during peak periods. Substantial evening and weekend work. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility required.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental selections, tuition reimbursement and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
