Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports, ensuring financial records are accurate, and performing analysis and account reconciliations. This position assists the Controller with financial statement preparation for several entities and preparation of information for audits. Due to the confidential nature of information handled by this role, the Senior Accountant should protect and maintain confidentiality for Keswick business and employee information.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Account Reconciliation: Preparing and/or reviewing ledger and subledger entries, account balances and reconciliations including bank reconciliations.
  2. General Ledger: Maintain the general ledger system in coordination with the controller with primary responsibility for fixed asset register. Work with Keswick staff on appropriate general ledger coding. Assists with analyzing and reporting cost variances.
  3. Financial Statements: Prepare financial statements for Keswick Foundation and assist controller with financial statements for MultiCare and other subsidiaries. Assists with regulatory reporting. Assists with consolidation of financial statements.
  4. Compliance: Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas. Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principals.
  5. Financial Reporting: Prepare month-end and year-end close and supporting account analyses. Prepare schedules for year-end external audit. Prepares departmental expense reports, and payroll reports as requested. Prepares reports for external entities and insurance companies supporting Keswick.
  6. Payroll: Assist in review of bi-weekly payroll and maintain and update general ledger interface between third party payroll provider and general ledger. Backup to the Payroll Specialist when on leave.
  7. Budgeting: Assists with budget preparation and monthly budget variance analysis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of theory and application of generally accepted accounting principles; financial statements; accounting software operations (MatrixCare highly preferred); internal controls; procedures for accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Skill in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements; working under limited supervision where standard procedures are established but where frequent independent decisions and adaptations are necessary; communicating clearly and effectively; prioritizing work and meeting deadlines.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or a finance-related field.

WORK ORIENTATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Requires 3 - 5 years' experience in accounting.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Controller

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a typical office environment, involving sitting for extended periods of time. Sits, stands, bends, and lifts intermittently throughout the workday. Involves constant use of computer keyboard and monitor. Frequent long hours and subject to stress associated with multiple demands. Some local travel may be required, as well as occasional work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Little or no risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste, or blood borne disease. Employees will be instructed in the proper use of personal protective equipment and specific protocol if assigned duties where they may be at risk.
