General Responsibilities
The Social Worker for Student Wellness will promote and improve the health and wellbeing of students by educating them on the impact of adopting healthy lifestyles. As part of the Student Success division this position will provide a supportive environment and share campus and community resources to ensure students can thrive and succeed in their educational journey. The selected individual will incorporate health equity, multicultural diversity, social justice, and public health principles into health promotion and campus support programs and services. The ability to identify student concerns and develop appropriate programs and services to support student needs is vital for the person in this role. The Social Worker for Student Wellness will be responsible for the Wellness Center's Peer Led Health Ed Program, including management of budget, formation of campus partnerships, and student supervision. This role provides counseling and case management for students with various needs and care coordination for the Sexual Health Clinic, responds to students in crisis, and provides intervention and support services as needed. The Social Worker for Student Wellness independently develops and facilitates support groups on sexual health, healthy relationships, body image, mental health awareness, and other topics impacting college students. They must be comfortable presenting in front of an audience and advising students on sensitive topics. The person in this position must be able to exercise tact and discretion and adhere to strict confidentiality. This position requires excellent verbal and written skills, time management, and organizational skills. In the absence of the Associate Director of Student Wellness, the Social Worker for Student Wellness must be able to manage the Wellness Center, supervise the wellness staff and triage crisis situations with sound decision-making.
Work Performed
* Develop, implement, and evaluate the specific wellness programs, functions, services, and activities to promote resiliency, create positive academic outcomes and increase student retention and completion
* Design, plan, facilitate and evaluate the success of support groups; Report challenges to implementation and what supports are needed for program success
* Provide emotional support, advocate, identify immediate needs, and make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources
* Provide case management, counseling, intervention and follow-up for students, specifically those referred from the sexual health clinic, including but not limited to topics such as, time management, past or recent trauma or abuse, and sexuality or gender identity questions
* Direct the Peer Led Health Ed program in the Wellness Center including managing budget for student projects
* Functions as a liaison between the Dragon Leadership Program, Rouse Scholars Program, faculty, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement and the Wellness Center to implement volunteer and/or service projects on campus
* Serve as project manager for the nursing student academic service requirement, which includes 9 hours of wellness-related projects and activities
* Supervise the work of the public health interns from the PUBH 250 course and mentor other students through various projects
* Recruit, train, hire and supervise Wellness Center Peer Health Educators
* Maintain knowledge the latest trends affecting community college students including healthy lifestyle, prevention, and wellness
* Plan, develop, and implement communication strategies to share health and program information with students through printed materials, social media, and other means
* Create a safe, inclusive, comfortable atmosphere for students of all backgrounds and beliefs
* Develop, engage, and maintain familiarity with campus and community referral resources
* Track and compile data from activities, maintain invoices, and develop reports for quarterly reporting to the Howard County Health Department and Howard Community College Student Success division
* Execute emergency procedures when necessary
* Serve as an expert in the field and function with little direction and supervision
* Other duties as needed

Minimum Education Required Master's degree
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 2
Other Knowledge Required
* Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field required, and minimum two years experience required; LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for MD licensure.
* Previous experience working with a diverse student population, preferably on a college campus.
* Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in a college student population.
* Experience in facilitating support groups and conducting small presentations is essential.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
* Experience developing health communication preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to identify and manage priorities and provide excellent customer service.
* Ability to use initiative and professional judgement to identify and deal with issues as they arise.
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality is required.
* Knowledge and Understanding of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) rules and regulations.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
