HAI is seeking a curious and motivated Research Historian to engage in extensive primary and secondary source research, write research reports, and present findings to clients. This position will primarily include work in Exhibits and Interpretive Planning and Litigation Research.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct historical research at a variety of repositories—government, university, and local—in-person and online
Recognize and extract key information obtained from historical sources
Working within a project team in various positions
Follow up on leads, making sure requested information is received in a timely manner
Client coordination and communication
Execute research plans and procedures
Draft written summaries, exhibit copy, and research reports
Qualifications:
BA/BS/MA in history or other research & writing fields
GPA 3.5 or above
Demonstrated experience conducting research in federal, state, and local government repositories, including National Archives facilities and the Library of Congress
Ability to work independently and in teams
Thorough, organized, and detail-oriented
Solution-oriented and resourceful
Ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately
Flexibility to work with complex client demands and shifting priorities
Ability to foster successful relationships with clients, team members, and records managers
Willingness to learn, interest in a wide range of topics, and a curiosity to explore new topics
Ability to work in different environments (on-site at repositories; from home; and from corporate offices in Rockville, Maryland)
Computer and technological skills
