Summary

Pharmacy Technician, Team Lead Full Time with benefits. The ideal schedule is 6:30a-3:00p or 7a-3:30p Monday-Friday. Hours of operation are 6a-9:30p Monday-Friday.

Under direction of the Director of Pharmacy will supervise the day-to-day activities of all Certified Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Interns/Co-ops. The Pharmacy Technician Team Lead will also devise and participate in technician related quality assurance activities, including controlled substance auditing and clinic inspections. Responsible for the scheduling of pharmacy technicians and arranging coverage in the event of sick calls and time off. Establishes operationally efficient technician workflows and develops strategies for continuous quality improvement. Works closely with pharmacy management to establish and promote technician engagement and professional development. Implements and monitors the implementation of technician-related cost containment strategies.

Essential Functions

  1. Trains all newly hired pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns (IPPEs) and co-op students.
  2. Responsible for the scheduling of all pharmacy technicians. Approves technician vacation and sick time requests per established pharmacy policy.
  3. Provides staff remediation and corrective action when required. Conducts annual technician performance reviews
  4. Acts as a liaison between pharmacy technicians and pharmacy and nursing leadership.
  5. Leads the development and refinement of pharmacy technician workflows
  6. Participates in the build, development, and go-live of pharmacy systems and devices. Trains pharmacy technicians on new workflows.
  7. Conducts regular outpatient clinic inspections, including those located at DPH licensed satellite facilities.
  8. Ensures compliance with technician related Joint Commission Medication Management standards, including medication security, recall management, and outdate tracking
  9. Develops and monitors pharmacy technician metrics and adjusts workload as needed.
  10. Serves as a back-up to the Pharmacy Informatics Specialist and Pharmacy Inventory Coordinator.
  11. Maintains controlled substance, compounding, and outpatient prescription records. Ensures files are archived in accordance with applicable regulatory bodies.
  12. Identifies and implements quality improvement measures. Reports medication errors secondary to misfills, failure to follow established procedures, and gaps in medication safety measures. Conducts and implements corrective and preventative action plans as required
  13. Ensures staff compliance with both institutional and regulatory requirements. Devises and administers staff competencies. Maintains staff competency library. Ensures staff competencies are completed annually. Ensures that onboarding documentation is completed within 90 days of hire for new technicians and interns.
  14. Participates on pharmacy and institutional committees.
  15. Assists with pharmacy project management responsibilities as required by pharmacists or pharmacy management.
  16. Maintains pharmacy led pharmaceutical sample program and monitors the appropriate distribution of sample medication.
  17. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to support the pharmacist in service of the needs of institutional patients.
  18. Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers. Conducts service recovery as required to maintain departmental and institutional customer service standards
  19. Performs all job functions of a Certified Pharmacy Technician as listed on the most current job description as required.

Regulatory Compliance

  1. Complies with all State and Federal rules, regulations and laws which govern the practice of pharmacy.
  2. Charge and credit all medications appropriately, as per departmental and institutional policies.
  3. Completes annual MEE regulatory compliance training
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Must have a minimum of 7 years of inpatient pharmacy technician experience
  3. Previous management or supervisory experience preferred
  4. Registered as a Pharmacist Technician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in good standing
  5. Must be certified with PTCB

Working Conditions

  1. Works within the Pharmacy Department but will routinely visit patient care and surgical areas
  2. May be exposed to infectious diseases, carcinogenic, mutagenic and sensitizing medications and chemicals
  3. Works under constant time constraints and deadlines.
  4. Distinguish routine functions from those requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment.
  5. Must possess time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks under time constraints.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to walk and stand 90% of the day and to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
  2. Work requires regularly reaching and grasping below, at, and above shoulder level.
  3. Work requires regularly pushing and/or pulling non-motorized equipment (e.g. carts, IV rolling rack, and medication rolling racks, etc.) weighing 40 to 60 pounds.
  4. Work requires regularly grasping and fine manipulation with hands.
  5. Work requires reading automated dispensing reports regularly.
