We are offering a $1,000 sign on bonus! Available for new hires who accept an offer by 6/30/22. The bonus will be paid out in two $500 installments, after 90 days of successful employment, and after 12 months of successful employment, both paid out from the start date

Overview

This is a full time position, 40 hours per week with benefits, at the Mass Eye and Ear's Main Campus, M-F business hours. We offer 50% off the MBTA pass to access the main campus easily.

The IRD Technician performs a responsible function in the electrical testing for diagnosis and prognosis of hereditary retinal degenerations.

Role Functions


1. Performs initial patient screening by documenting the chief complaint, ocular, family and medical history, pain assessment, patient medication list, allergies, visual acuity; performing subjective refractions, lensometry, tonometry; confrontational visual field; pupil and extraocular muscle assessment; and proper instillation of diagnostic drops.
2. Performs additional ophthalmic tests including dark adaptation, color vision, electroretinographic (ERG), electrooculographic (EOG) testing and visual fields as needed.
3. Types medical reports from notes taken at consultations and must be familiar with technical language.
4. Maintains adequate medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam and testing rooms.
5. Calibrates testing equipment to ensure proper functionality and patient safety. Notifies the appropriate personnel if a problem is identified.
6. Properly cleans instruments, equipment and exam/ testing rooms according to infection control standards.
7. Has knowledge of ocular anatomy and physiology; ocular pharmacology including the identification and proper usage and instillation of diagnostic medications
8. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the patients' age, mental and physical needs.
9. Complies with all state, federal and local regulations and laws governing the performance of this position
10. Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures including HIPPA and patient and employee confidentiality
11. Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with Infection Control/Joint Commission/Department of Public Health (DPH) standards.
12. Performs all other duties required to assist in/and or ensure the delivery of complete ophthalmic care and treatment of patients

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • At least one-year experience in a supervised setting as an ophthalmic assistant is highly preferred
  • If not certified at time of hire, the incumbent is required to obtain certification within one year of hire
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work with colleagues and patients with exceptional care
