HDR is seeking a Transmission Line Project Engineer to join our nationally ranked Power Delivery team in our Ann Arbor, Michigan office.

Primary Responsibilities:

The primary duties of the Transmission Project Engineer include responsibility for oversight and execution of a project's technical aspects and deliverables. The Transmission Project Engineer must understand overhead transmission line design and can complete all technical requirements of assigned projects from basic to moderate complexity. The Project Engineer may work independently on small tasks and may assist senior engineers on larger, more complex projects.

Tasks may include:

  • Develop and review engineering deliverables in support of overhead transmission line projects
    • PLS-CADD model
    • PLS-POLE models
    • Project design criteria
    • Steel pole loading calculations and drawings
    • Engineering drawings and specifications
    • Foundation designs and drawings
    • Bill of materials
  • Assisting with preparing cost estimates or specifications
  • Participate in field reviews, or construction observation
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others. Perform detailed engineering reviews for work performed by others
  • May also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, from accredited university
  • PE License (PE) or ability to obtain in 2 years
  • Experience using PLS-CADD, performing structure analysis, preparing project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, performing design optimization, preparing specifications and drawings, and other engineering documents required for power transmission line projects
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in transmission line design as outlined above
  • Successfully completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Some travel may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Master's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • Distribution/underbuild design experience
  • Managerial and leadership skills
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering, or engineering consulting firm desired
  • Preference will be given to local candidates
